Bellocq Tea Atelier

I can't find the original photo I took and had to take a screenshot of my Instagram photo. Here's the link to the original Instagram post: Sketchbook Drawing. Here's the original TikTok video

I used a graphite pencil, a white charcoal pencil, and a gold pen on toned sketchbook paper. I drew this on a bench at Transmitter Park. Although the shimmering water would have undoubtedly provided a stunning backdrop, envisioning a GIF capturing its rhythmic sway, I aspired to elevate this creation to a more refined setting. My intention was to showcase it within an environment exuding a sense of opulence and luxury. Bellocq Tea Atelier came to mind immediately. Since Bellocq is not a cafe that you can sit at, I shamefully took a photo and then a video of my drawing in their fern room. See the photo below. Ha!

In 2018, I serendipitously stumbled upon Bellocq Tea Atelier, perhaps on their captivating Instagram feed—I'm not entirely certain. The enchanting images, reminiscent of my idealized living room, beckoned me to seek out this hidden gem. Navigating the unassuming black doors and the absence of any overt signage proved challenging. Once inside, I eagerly inquired about ordering a beverage, only to discover they didn't serve drinks. Despite my initial disappointment, I was offered a small sample and the opportunity to indulge in the sensory experience of smelling a myriad of teas before making a purchase.

While I longed to linger in their exquisite fern room, I resigned myself to the fact that it was not a traditional tea-drinking establishment. I ultimately chose a blend named Marjarelle Mint, enriched with the subtle allure of star anise. This annual pilgrimage to Bellocq has become a cherished ritual, and if you share a passion for tea, this haven is an experience that transcends the ordinary.
